update
the past 3 days have been eventful. went to 2 parties and even managed to squeeze in a movie.
I watched v for vendetta! nice. really awesome. its soooo 1984. and i didn't even know that v was hugo weaving till the credits rolled. and natalie portman looked so good commando. i want also! my favourite scene was the dominos scene. its kinda theatrical, a bit over the top but its definitely a movie in a league of its own. i must be mad to watch movies here because they cost 4-6euros, depending on which day you watch it but its already half price compared to what non-students pay. which singaporean can resist a bargain like that? i watched it with 2 friends and one of them didn't speak english too well, so she didn't really understood it. oh bugger, thank goodness we watched it in english and not in german, or I wouldn't be able to understand it. though....the trailers for the new movies were all in german and there was one for ice age 2 and sid the sloth has the same voice, with his sloth-like-lisp, just that he speaks german. haha, how cool is that, ice age animals are linguists.
well, the 2 parties. the first one was my friend's birthday party, he turned 26. everyone here is mostly older than me. i only have 1 friend who is younger than me and a few others my age. that was good, he made this egg potato thingie which was awesome, some kinda spanish food and he was kinda tipsy so it was really fun. we played the stupidest games that night: spin the bottle, truth or dare. and he asked me, at one point, why is my first language is english(see, i told u he was tipsy). oh man, but i didn't really know why. i mean like, duhh, it's english, as opposed to chinese? so i said that well, in singapore we have english as one of our official languages and its the medium in which official and educational stuff are carried out, blah blah blah. but, the majority, i think, of singaporeans do speak their own languages to their friends/family. its really strange and novel to be explaining stuff that i dont even think about.
and the other party was an Erasmus (exchange program for european students) party, again. but i went anyhow, again, even though i wasn't from Erasmus. and i had the usual questions and comments,
oh, so which part of china is singapore? (arghh, singapore is singapore, not part of china!!)
its really good that you speak english!! (ya, i mean, i think my english can make it hor, because school is in english one mah!)
but its all good, i'm always ready to clarify their doubts and set the facts straight.
i'm such a good embassador. hahah
